Daily Design no.55 Lots of Fringe

I was in a movie...

Hi all!

To take a break from discussing fashion, I have an important announcement!

In the Summer of 2012, I worked as a costume designer and an actress for an indie movie named

 Mo Chara.

It is coming out soon!

Here is more information about it; which came from their blog:

~

Mo Chara
is premiering at
Celebration! Cinema Lansing
200 E. Edgewood Blvd. ~ Lansing, MI 48911

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014

The run time of each is about 90 minutes.

Aibhlinn, a clumsily charming young woman,
and her best friend, the rash and reckless Torin,
find that life is a bigger adventure than either had ever imagined.
The independent Christian student film group,
Epic Summer Movie, presents Mo Chara.
Set in medieval Ireland, this historical fiction
follows the O’Suileabhain and O'Caoimh clans.

Although you may possibly purchase them the night of the Premiere

Modest Baggy Jeans Are In!

Some of you may have seen this trend starting in the summer.  When I first saw it I was like "NOOOOOO!!!!!  Those are my Mom's jeans!"  Well it seems that I am not the only one to react like this, because they are, in fact, called Mom Jeans...

Well you may ask why I am going to embrace this style...  (Other than the fact that I am a trend maniac)

They are modest!  Like really modest!  And if styled correctly, really, really cute!

These pants can be baggy and stylish at the same time, which for us modest dressers is a big sigh of relief after the last decade of "cut off your circulation jeans".

So here are my favorite ways to modestly style this big "new" trend.
(I say "new" because it is a repeating trend... Just look at what woman wore in 1990, and you'll see what I mean.)

  Go vintage!
I think it would make this outfit so much better if she wore a pair of high heeled oxfords.

  Animal graphics!
This whole ensemble reminds me of Ralph Lauren!
This outfit would also look really cute with a fox or raccoon shirt!

 Heels!
They lighten the baggy look and give it a feminine touch!

Motorcycle jackets!
I love these jeans because they are more fitted but still keep with the high waisted trend.
A military jacket would also look sweet with this!

No White After Labor Day???

Okay, this is supposedly a no-brainer for fall and winter fashion, but I just heard about this one last spring.

Wow, that says something for my fashion knowledge... Right?  I hope not!

This comes back to the "Who tells you what to wear?" question.

Looking at this historically, people often wore white during the summer months to keep them cool, or to tell their status in society (poor people could not afford white clothes).  Then in the fall months they changed back into darker colors to keep the appearance of mud and dirt low.

Well that does make sense, but now a days, most people will still wear white after labor day (including myself), because we have advanced laundering techniques.

I have to say that this is one of the fashion rules that I will break constantly, and if I loose my status as a fashionable individual...  so be it. ;-)

Stop Trying to Fit "In"

Hi everyone!

Most people struggle with trying to fit "In".

Sadly, I'm included in this section of society.

I found this article a few months ago; it was very encouraging to me.  I hope it will give you a new perspective about yourself.

What's with the Poll?

Hey gals!

I just wanted to explain why there is a poll on the sidebar of this blog.

I thought it would be an easy way to communicate what type of post people like.  That way I know what you all want to see!

Have a great Thursday!

 And don't forget to Vote!

Stand STRONG!

Hi All!

After my last post Why Is Dressing Modestly Important? I thought that I would follow it up with this Stand Strong music video from Moriah Peters.

At times, I know it feels that we are alone in dressing modestly or that nobody cares that we try to dress with decency, but we need to remember to stand strong in our beliefs!

I hope you enjoy this video!

You Don't Have to Try...

Hi All!

I had seen this video a few months back and I thought I would share it with you!  I had liked Colbie's music, but after she released this song, she became one of my favorite signers!

I know that some of the shirts in this video are immodest, but I would advise you to find the deeper message, which supports natural God given beauty!

Me in Chicago!

Last week I went to Chicago!

This trip was originally to drop off my good friend Amber at the Diamond Headache Clinic (click HERE to support her), however my Mom and I decided to put our money together so we could stay another night.

Our goal was to gain knowledge of current high-end fashion and have a blast doing it!

Our quest began at Neiman Marcus.
I had never heard of this store before, and the experience was amazing!

There were four floors:
The first contained mainly purses and jewelry, but it also had a few designer rooms.
The second and third floors contained women's clothing; ranging from ball dresses to jeans.
The fourth floor contained men's wear and decor.

Overall, it was sensational and very educational!
I met a lovely attendant who was very understanding of my business goals and dreams.  We talked about trends and directions of fashion, which was so encouraging!
(I'll talk more about this in a later post.)

When we left Nieman Marcus, we took Amber from the clinic to the hospital.  After saying goodbye, we drove back the hostel (Which was so cool!) and had lunch.

Our room.
The Lobby.

Then we set out for the
Magnificent Mile!

This was so exciting!
I'm from the country, so having all these people, noises, and attractions was intimidating, but wonderful!

We took the red line train from Fullerton Avenue to Chicago Street.
After wandering through the streets, we were finally directed to the Magnificent Mile!

For those of you who don't know (like me two weeks ago) the Magnificent Mile is:
"One of the top 10 hospitality, dining and retail destinations in the world, with endless shopping, international cuisine, top rated hotels, lively entertainment, majestic architecture and natural beauty at every turn, The Magnificent Mile offers visitors to Chicago a one-of-a-kind city experience."
You can visit their website here: http://www.themagnificentmile.com/.

When we got there, we went into AllSaints; their decor was so creative and cohesive!

As you can see they used glass table tops welded to old factory machinery to display their wears!
Too many sewing machines to count!  I'm in heaven!

Then we went into Saks Fifth Avenue!

Obviously these outfits aren't up to my modesty standard, but I love these displays so much!

It was one of the most classy setups I had ever seen!  And the most expensive!
One orange fur coat was $36,000!

After this was, of course, The Disney Store!

They had Aristocats on!

Then we went to Tiffany's!

Next was Ralph Lauren.

I love this store's classic theme!

Finally we went to Macy's.
On the way we passed the iconic Water Tower and the Topshop.

After eating dinner (we found gluten free pizza!) we headed back to the hostel.

One of the trains we took.

All in all, it was a great day!
